For IT Professionals:
What’s Next for Laserfiche?
Most organizations don’t start out thinking about enterprise content infrastructure. They start by solving a departmental problem.

At the first stage, Laserfiche is often centered around a department or operational team. It helps organize information, manage records, improve retrieval, and reduce paper-based processes. A lot of agencies still operate here very successfully. The friction usually starts appearing when information needs to move between departments, workflows become harder to manage manually, or public records and governance expectations increase.
As organizations grow operationally, Laserfiche often becomes more connected to day-to-day business processes. Departments begin sharing workflows, integrations become more important, and governance starts needing more consistency across the organization. This is usually where conversations around cloud migration, workflow expansion, integrations, and accessibility begin to accelerate. At this stage, the platform starts becoming operationally important.
The third pattern is where content services become embedded into enterprise operations. At this point, Laserfiche is no longer functioning primarily as a repository. It becomes part of the organization’s operational infrastructure. AI, automation, trusted systems, accessibility, integrations, and governance all start intersecting. Downtime affects multiple services. Information trust becomes critical. The platform supports operations rather than simply storing documents.
The important thing about this framework is that it’s not intended as a maturity scorecard or a prescribed path. Most organizations operate across multiple patterns at the same time. One department may still function departmentally while another is heavily automated and integrated.
What we’ve found helpful is using the framework to identify where operational friction is starting to appear and what kinds of conversations might make sense next. For some organizations that means workflow modernization. For others it may be integrations, cloud migration, records management, trusted systems, scanning and conversion initiatives, accessibility planning, or AI exploration.
The goal isn’t to force organizations into a specific model. It’s to help identify operational patterns and discuss where the greatest opportunities or pressures may be emerging
