Recently, I had the opportunity to sit in on a behind-the-scenes demonstration of Laserfiche’s latest AI-powered enhancements for Workflow. The session, led by CPS’s own Terrence Srey, showcased just how much the platform has evolved, and how these innovations are set to redefine automation and productivity for organizations using Laserfiche Cloud and, soon, self-hosted systems.
From Manual to Smart
Laserfiche has always been about helping organizations work smarter, but the upcoming AI release feels like a leap forward rather than just a step. Terrance began by highlighting new interface improvements in the Cloud web client:
Modernized metadata entry – rearranged fields, side-by-side layouts, radio buttons, and multi-value checkboxes make data entry more intuitive.
AI-powered document summarization – a single click now condenses long text into a quick, accurate overview.
Smart Chat for documents – the ability to query up to 20 records at once, asking natural language questions and getting targeted answers without opening each file individually.
These enhancements aren’t just cosmetic; they’re designed to cut down on manual review and reduce the friction between finding information and using it.
AI Meets Workflow
The real game-changer is how these AI tools integrate with Laserfiche Workflow. Workflow has long been the “invisible engine” behind process automation, quietly monitoring repository activity and triggering actions based on defined rules. With the new AI integration, it’s gaining a set of “smart eyes and ears.”
In the demo, Terrance showed an incoming documents folder monitored by Workflow. As files arrived, the AI could not only trigger automated routing but also understand the content, extracting key details, classifying records, and even prompting follow-up actions without human intervention.
Imagine:
Incoming contracts are automatically summarized, tagged, and routed to the right department.
Service requests are analyzed for urgency and sent to the correct workflow branch.
Historical records scanned and classified for retention compliance.
Why This Matters
This release fits squarely into Laserfiche’s published AI roadmap, moving from increasing human productivity (document summarization, intelligent search) toward increasing automation productivity (smart classification, smart decisions, smart processing). It’s part of the broader Arc of Innovation that Laserfiche has been sharing with customers this year.
For organizations looking to modernize their processes, this AI-driven workflow capability is more than a convenience; it’s a competitive advantage. Tasks that used to require hours of manual review can now happen instantly, freeing staff to focus on high-value work.
The Rollout
Currently available in Laserfiche Cloud, these features are expected to arrive for self-hosted systems later this year (Laserfiche has hinted at a September–October 2025 release). For CPS clients, this means now is the perfect time to evaluate your processes and prepare for a smarter, more automated future.
Bottom line: This isn’t just about doing things faster. It’s about transforming how work gets done. And from what I’ve seen, Laserfiche AI for Workflow is going to be a very welcome co-worker.
