A Grateful Crowd, Engaged Conversations, and a Strong Showing for CPS
CPS had a great time at the recent City Clerks' New Law Conference hosted by the California League of Cities. With about 350 attendees and roughly 70 clients in the room, it felt more like a community gathering than a trade show. City clerks always bring an energy of getting things done, and this year was no exception. The conversations were lively, focused, and filled with genuine curiosity about what is possible in 2026 and beyond.
Thoughtful touches that matter
One of the highlights for us this year was something simple but meaningful. Every CPS client received a beautiful box of See's Candies. Claude has an exceptional talent for choosing the perfect acknowledgment gifts, and these were a hit as Claude said, “When you work with clerks as long as we have, you learn what small gestures show real appreciation. These folks keep local agencies moving, and they deserve to feel seen.”
We also brought along our ever-popular cookies. At this point, they are practically part of the CPS brand. More than one clerk joked that they look for the cookie table before they even look for our banner.
Strong engagement around digital transformation
The show was smaller than MISAC, with only about 15-16 vendors, including one other Laserfiche Partner. But the conversations were deeper and more focused. Clerks were incredibly engaged with AI, far more than what we saw at the IT conference, Claude noted. Many were hungry for practical, immediate use cases and wanted to understand what AI means inside an ECM environment.

Claude and Jamie invited attendees to our upcoming AI webinar, which generated significant interest. One comment that stood out came from Claude. “I still found smaller agencies that do not have an ECM at all. They know they need to modernize, and they were grateful to have real conversations about what a reasonable first step looks like.”
Scanning services were also a big topic. Our expanded scanning offering has created genuine curiosity around how CPS can help clerks jump-start their digital journey while taking pressure off overworked staff.
The recurring question is how CPS is different
As is common at most conferences, clerks and prospects asked how CPS differs from other Laserfiche Partners. The question gave Jamie and Claude a chance to lean into the parts of CPS that we are most proud of.
Jamie explained, “When people ask what makes CPS different, I tell them it is our technical approach and our philosophy about service. We do not believe in nickel-and-diming anyone while they are learning the system. If you are partnering with us, we want you to actually use Laserfiche to its full potential.”
This opened the door for them to highlight Joe Memphin’s approach to triaging functionality during onboarding. Joe has a simple rule. Suppose something takes less time to configure than it would to write a statement of work; he just does it for the client — gratis. That mindset removes friction and builds trust. When combined with CPS VIP Support’s unlimited training, it gives CPS a truly different service and support offering.
A great event with great people
The City Clerk's New Law Conference has always been a strong event for CPS. This year confirmed why. Clerks are busy, practical, and deeply committed to transparency and accessible public records. They want realistic paths to digital maturity. They want partners who show up and stay engaged.
As Jamie put it, “This audience understands the value of Laserfiche when it is deployed well. They also know they do not have time for unnecessary complexity. That is why these conversations matter so much.”
We could not agree more. CPS left the event energized, grateful, and excited to keep supporting the clerks who keep local agencies running.
